What excites you most about the future of this role at Helix?

“Looking to the future, I’m excited about the potential to push boundaries in workplace design at Helix. As the way people work continues to evolve, there’s a growing need for spaces that are adaptable, inclusive, and inspiring. I’m eager to explore innovative solutions that not only meet these needs, but also set new standards in the industry. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to drive that evolution, and I look forward to contributing to Helix’s ongoing impact in the market.”

What goals do you hope to accomplish in this role?

“I’m excited to deepen my connection with the community. One of my goals is to work on more local projects that resonate with the people and businesses we serve, leaving a positive, lasting impact on our shared environment. Additionally, I hope to grow as a mentor and empower my team to develop their own unique skills and perspectives. Seeing them succeed is incredibly rewarding, and fostering that growth within the team is a priority for me.”

Who is someone that inspires you?

“Two individuals who inspire me and have significantly impacted my career are my current mentors, Alissa and Erika. In just a few years of working with them, I have learned invaluable lessons from their leadership and expertise as prominent female figures in the interior design community. Their involvement within our community is inspiring. They foster an environment of collaboration and open communication, empowering me to share my ideas and seek guidance without hesitation.

I am grateful for their mentorship, which has inspired me to pursue projects that resonate with our local community. Their example as strong female leaders motivates me to continue growing in my own career.”

What is a key piece of advice you would give someone starting a career in interior design?

“To embrace the journey of continuous learning and stay open to diverse perspectives. Early in my career, I felt pressure to have all the answers or to stick closely to established norms. However, I’ve come to realize that the most valuable insights often come from collaboration and stepping outside of my comfort zone.

I would encourage seeking mentorship early on and actively engaging with colleagues and clients, as these relationships are invaluable for growth. Embracing feedback and being willing to adapt my ideas has ultimately led to stronger designs and better outcomes for my projects.”

Jordan Krug NCIDQ, IIDA

Jordan joined the Helix team with a wide range of experience on higher education and sports projects. For Jordan, designing a space begins with those who dwell in it. She is motivated by a commitment to creating spaces that truly resonate with clients and enhance their daily experience. Jordan focuses on impactful and thoughtful design that tells a story and invites others in.

Can you share about your personal journey and how it got you to this specific role?

“My journey to my current role was winding at times, but was always rooted in an interdisciplinary mindset. From a young age, art and being creative was a part of who I was and how I expressed myself. Fast forward to my career post education, that still stands true. Early in my career, I found a passion for integrating environmental graphics and storytelling into interior design. Creating an impactful and thoughtfully designed space became extremely important to me.

As my career evolved, that same interdisciplinary mindset branched from the environmental graphics and branding to not only the interior design, but also the exterior and big architectural moves. Having the ability to see the bigger picture has been a beneficial asset not only when it comes to my day to day project work, but also how the firm can continue to grow.”

What excites you most about the future of this role at Helix?

“The most exciting part of my role is working towards a common goal of elevating the firm alongside like minded, passionate, and creative individuals. Helping with the growth of not only the firm as a whole, but also having a part in mentoring and growing individuals is extremely rewarding.”

What leadership qualities do you value most?

“The top leadership qualities I value most are creativity and a clear vision, good communication and empowering others. I believe all of these qualities work hand in hand together. They are crucial for not only the success of the team, but also the growth of the next generation and younger designers. Throughout my career, I have focused much of my own leadership style on those qualities.”

What is a key piece of advice you would give someone starting a career in interior design?

“A key piece of advice I would offer up to someone starting out in the field of interior design is to invest in yourself. Take the time to learn new skills and master those skills. Go above and beyond to educate yourself in learning software well, becoming familiar with how designs are built and constructed and work on strengthening presentation skills. Taking the time early on in your career to master these skills will set you up to success later in your career.”
