2024 Year in Review
As we wrap up 2024, we reflect on a year of growth, thoughtful leadership, and connection. Each occasion is a reminder of the difference we’re making in the communities where we practice.
One exciting milestone for Helix this year was our move to a new headquarters. After more than two decades in our previous space, Helix relocated to a new building, while still staying true to our roots with a spot in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District.
Design
Helix practices with the belief that architecture and interior design are intertwined. We are instigators of ideas that stem from listening to our client’s aspirations. We digest, we explore, and relentlessly create until we arrive at a responsible solution that is both functional and beautiful. This year brought new and exciting opportunities for elevating the human experience and delivering on our clients’ visions.
People + Community
Helix encourages our staff to foster strong community connections through involvement in various local organizations, including the Downtown KC Council’s Housing Task Force, Big Brothers Big Sister, NOMA KC, and more volunteer efforts throughout the Helix team.
This year, we also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Helix Prize. This award celebrates the legacy of Bud Persons, challenging UMKC architecture students with a design competition focused on creating a music hall for the Westport area of Kansas City. Congratulations to all the UMKC students for their outstanding concepts.
Leadership
Many Helix team members are shaping the future of architecture and design through their leadership in the profession. (From left to right) Erika Moody, FIIDA, President of Helix Architecture + Design, was inaugurated as President of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and she joined the Board of Trustees for the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Alissa Wehmueller, IIDA, WELL AP, LEED AP, joined the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Art Institute. Tanvi Sanghvi, Project Architect and Project Manager, joined the AIA Kansas City Pillars Leadership Program. Additionally, Sofia Acosta, Interior Designer, was named President-Elect of IIDA Mid-America. These accomplishments are a reflection of the talent and leadership throughout our firm.
Helix principals Erika Moody FIIDA; Alissa Wehmueller IIDA, LEED AP, WELL AP; and Doug Stockman AIA, participated in speaking engagements locally, regionally, and internationally to exchange ideas and share expertise.
What’s Next
With the New Year coming up, we eagerly look ahead to the opportunities that 2025 holds. Helix is proud to have broadened our reach to further cities across the country.
We are grateful for the trust and collaboration from our clients and partners, who have made this year’s accomplishments possible.
